Dhenkanal: A 50-year-old woman allegedly died after being caught in a swiftly spreading forest fire near Gobari village under Mahabirod police station in Dhenkanal district on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Budhini Mahanta, the wife of Dambarudhar Mahanta.
According to reports, Budhini was near her house when she noticed the forest fire approaching. In an attempt to extinguish the flames, she tried to intervene.
Unfortunately, during the process, she fell into an irrigation canal and was unable to escape the rapidly advancing fire. Tragically, she lost her life.
Upon receiving the information, Mahabirod police arrived at the scene and have initiated an investigation, which is currently underway.
