Bhubaneswar: A woman was rescued naked in a seriously injured condition from a hilly forest near Antrada under R Udayagiri police station limits in Gajapati district on Tuesday.
The woman, a resident of Adaba police station area, is currently undergoing treatment at the Paralakhemundi District Headquarters Hospital. She is 40-year-old Geeta Kumari.
According to the complaint filed by the woman, she was called to a hill near Antrada panchayat’s Dagadpur village by a youth identified as Rahul of Udayagiri area. She alleged that she was taken to a secluded forest where an attempt was made to rape her. She was also attacked with a knife and later pelted with stones in an attempt to kill her.
Local villagers found the woman naked and badly injured and immediately rescued her. She was first taken to Khajuripada Health Center for primary treatment. As her condition was serious, she was later shifted to the District Head Hospital at Paralakhemundi. Doctors said she has sustained serious injuries to her head and hands.
The Udayagiri police started an investigation into the incident. Police said the details of the case will be clear after further investigation.
