Bhubaneswar: A court in Bhubaneswar sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for murdering a hotelier, with an additional Rs 1 lakh fine. Sunki Rana, alias Soni, had been found guilty of killing the man after he repeatedly pressured her to marry him.
The court revealed Rana’s troubled past, including a previous 12-year jail term for murdering her sister-in-law in Jharsuguda. Rana’s relationship with the victim, who had met her at an ashram in Puri, turned fatal when she refused his marriage proposal.
The sentence includes two more years in prison if the fine isn’t paid. Rana’s history and calculated actions led to the life imprisonment verdict.
