Bolangir: A woman was killed and her two minor children had a narrow escape when they jumped from a running train in Bolangir district on Friday.
The deceased woman has been identified as Jharana Mahanand of Jarasingha village under Deogaon police limits in Bolangir district.
According to reports, Jharana had been to Bolangir with her two minor daughters for some work. On her way back home she waited at Bolangir railway station to catch a passenger train to reach her destination.
Meanwhile, Deendayal Upadhayay Visakhapatnam Superfast Express arrived at the station. Thinking it to be the passenger train for which they had booked tickets Jharana with her two daughters boarded it.
Later, Jharana realised that it was not the train for which they had booked tickets.
When the train slowed down while crossing Badmal railway station Jharana first pushed her two children towards the platform and then jumped from the train. Unfortunately, her head hit the platform killing her instantaneously.
Police have seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. Jharana’s daughters who are 4 and 2 years old respectively were handed over to their relatives after first aid.
