Baripada: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed after being run over by a moving train near Thakuratota railway station under Baisinga police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Friday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Sita alias Kati Singh (46), wife of Paramananda Singh of Nuasahi village in Ambadia sub-division. According to reports, around 2 PM, the woman suddenly lay down on the railway tracks just as a MEMU train from Bangriposi to Balasore was approaching the station. The train ran over her, severing her head from her body.

Following information from the train’s loco pilot, personnel from Rupsa GRP reached the spot and began an investigation. However, by the time police arrived, family members had already removed the body from the tracks.

Preliminary inquiry suggests that family discord may have led the woman to take this extreme step, though police are verifying the circumstances surrounding the incident.
