Bolagarh (Khordha): A powerful explosion rocked Ichhapur village in the Khanguria Panchayat under Bolagarh police limits in Khordha district this afternoon, claiming the life of a 27-year-old woman and leaving a child critically injured.

The blast occurred inside the residence of the deceased, identified as Begum alias Lili, sparking widespread panic in the area.

According to initial reports, the explosion was sudden and deafening, drawing the attention of nearby villagers who rushed to the site. They found Begum and a child lying severely injured amidst the debris and immediately alerted local police.

Police personnel from Bolagarh police station arrived at the scene and evacuated the victims to the Bolagarh Community Health Centre. Tragically, doctors declared Begum dead upon arrival. The injured child continues to receive critical medical care.

Police have registered a case and launched a formal investigation. The deceased’s body has been sent for post-mortem, after which it will be handed over to the family. While the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be officially confirmed, preliminary speculation among locals points toward the illegal storage of firecrackers in the house, which may have triggered the blast.

Police have not ruled out other possibilities and are examining all angles.
