Bhubaneswar: A 56-year-old woman was killed after being attacked by a crocodile in Kendrapara district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Hemalata Das, wife of late Samar Das, a resident of Kharinasi village under Mahakalapada block.
According to reports, Hemalata had gone to the agricultural fields near the village at around 8 am. She is suspected to have gone to the Galia River, a distributary of the Mahanadi, possibly to attend nature’s call, when a crocodile attacked her and dragged her into deep water. Locals later rescued her after a search and rushed her to Ramnagar Hospital. She was subsequently shifted to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
