Sundargarh: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, a woman was killed in an elephant attack in Kantarkoida village in the Koida Forest Range area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Saturday night.
The victim has been identified as Aarti Munda.
According to reports, a herd of five wild elephants entered Kantarkoida village in search of food late on Saturday night, destroyed some houses, and ate the paddy stored in the houses.
Hearing the news that an elephant herd had invaded the village, Aarti got scared and tried to run away from her house. However, she came in the way of an elephant that trampled Aarti injuring her grievously.
Villagers rushed Aarti to Koida Community Health Center in a critical condition but doctors there declared her brought dead.
On being informed, Forest department personnel reached the spot and tried to drive away the elephant herd from the village.
On their way back, the elephants destroyed several mud houses in the village.
