Rairangpur: A 66-year-old woman died and two others were seriously injured in separate attacks by giant wild bees in Rairangpur area of Mayurbhanj district on Monday, reports said.
The deceased was identified as Basanti Devi (66) of Ward No. 14, Ichinda, under Rairangpur Town police station limits.
According to the reports, Basanti was returning home from the market when a swarm of wild bees attacked her near her residence. Neighbours rescued her and rushed her to the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
In a separate incident, Khageswar Giri (64) and Subas Giri (46) of Purunapani village under Badampahar police station limits were seriously injured after being attacked by wild bees while grazing cattle.
Family members rescued the two men in critical condition and admitted them to the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
