Pattamundai: A woman allegedly killed her husband while he was asleep in an intoxicated state following a quarrel at Malapatana village under Aali police limits in Kendrapara district, police said.
The deceased was identified as Niranjan Sahu. His wife, Manorama, allegedly strangled him by stepping on his neck while he was sleeping after returning home late on Wednesday night following a drinking session. Accused Manorama has been detained by the police.
According to police, Manorama told investigators that Niranjan, who was allegedly addicted to alcohol, frequently quarrelled with her and their children after returning home drunk. She said she worked at a hotel cleaning utensils to support their two children and claimed she could no longer tolerate the alleged domestic torture.
Manorama also allegedly told police that her son and minor daughter had assisted her in the killing.
The matter came to light on Thursday morning after neighbours spotted Niranjan’s body lying outside the house and alerted Aali police. Police reached the spot and launched an investigation with the assistance of a scientific team, which examined the crime scene.
Police have taken up the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged involvement of the family members.
