Bhubaneswar: A woman and her lover were sentenced to life imprisonment for killing her husband in Sundergarh.
The convicts are Situ Panda (37) and lover Biswaranjan Gupta (43).
The Sundergarh district and sessions court also directed them to pay Rs 5,000 fine each. In default of the payment of the fine, they would undergo six months more imprisonment.
The incident took place on October 19, 2013 at Brahmanpada under Sundergarh Town Police Station. Situ Panda, along with her lover Biswaranjan Gupta, attacked and killed her husband Gatikrishna Purohit with a knife. They buried Ganakrishna’s dead body in a bamboo forest under Hemagiri police station.
During the investigation, the police suspected Situ Panda and Biswaranjan Gupta. After further investigation, police arrested both of them. Gupta confessed to the crime during interrogation. In this case, on the basis of the statements of 27 witnesses and scientific evidence, the court has convicted Situ Panda and Biswaranjan Gupta and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
The court has ordered to pay Rs 10 lakh to the daughter of deceased Gatikrushna.
