Bhubaneswar: A married woman and her alleged boyfriend were detained by locals after being caught having an extramarital affair at Akarua village under Anandapur police station of Keonjhar district.
The detained man has been identified as Manas Dehury.
According to reports, the woman, who married a man from Akarua village seven years ago and is the mother of a five-year-old son, met Manas on Instagram two years ago. They developed a romantic relationship, initially chatting on social media, before exchanging phone numbers and continuing their conversations over the phone. They also met in person whenever possible.
The woman claims that Manas coerced her into a physical relationship during their meetings and recorded their intimate moments on his phone. He later blackmailed her with the videos, repeatedly forcing her into physical relations.
On Sunday night, Manas visited Akarua village to meet her. However, her family members caught him, locked the door from the outside, and informed the villagers. The locals arrived at the house and detained both the woman and Manas.
On receiving information about the incident, a police team from Anandapur police station arrived to intervene but was prevented by the villagers, who held a night-long meeting to resolve the issue.
After informing Dehury’s family and learning of the woman’s decision to leave her husband and live with Dehury, the villagers formalized an agreement and released both individuals.
