Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a woman was murdered by her elder brother-in-law over a land-related dispute in Basudevpur, Bhadrak district, on Monday night.
The incident occurred after the woman got into a verbal clash with her brother-in-law on Monday afternoon over an issue related to the measurement of ancestral land.
The deceased woman, identified as Pritirekha Jena, was killed after being hit on the head twice with a crowbar by Ratikanta Jena in the evening.
According to sources, Ratikanta was enraged because of the clash with Pritirekha in the afternoon, got drunk in the evening and attacked his sister-in-law in an intoxicated state.
Critically injured Pritirekha was immediately shifted to the local hospital in Basudevpur, from where she was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
Pritirekha lost her life while being taken to the hospital.
Family members of Pritirekha had filed a formal complaint against Ratikanta in the Basudevpur police station, following which police officials have started an investigation into the matter.
Accused Ratikanta Jena evaded the crime scene after being chased by the police and locals.
