Bhubaneswar: A woman was seriously injured after a bear gouged out one of her eyes inside her village in the Udala forest range area. The incident occurred at Kusalda village under Udala block in Mayurbhanj district.
The victim, identified as Damayanti Barik, was stepping out of her house onto the road when the bear suddenly entered the village and attacked her.
As per reports, the bear violently struck her face, completely damaging her left eye with its claws. She was immediately rushed to Udala Hospital in critical condition. Later, due to the seriousness of her injuries, she was shifted to Baripada for advanced treatment.
On receiving information, the Forest Department team reached the spot and initiated efforts to track the bear and drive it back into the forest. The department is also maintaining vigil in the area to prevent further attacks.
Locals are in a state of fear following the bear’s entry into the residential area.
