Sambalpur Village

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her younger brother and elder sister during a family gathering at Majhipada village under Bamra block in Sambalpur district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Lina Sahoo.

According to reports, the siblings were attending the funeral ceremony of their father’s elder brother when a heated argument broke out over an undisclosed family matter. The verbal altercation soon turned violent, following which the accused duo allegedly attacked Lina with a knife, leaving her critically injured.

She was immediately rushed to the Bamra Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared her brought dead.

On being informed, Govindpur police reached the spot and launched an investigation.

“My father passed away on May 8 and today his funeral ceremony was held. Lina was not invited but came anyway. Her father questioned who had invited her. Later, Lina’s brother and father warned me that something might happen. Within 30 minutes, my daughter called to say she had been attacked. By the time I reached, it was too late. I do not know what exactly led to the incident,” said Arakhita Sahoo, a relative of the deceased.

The exact cause behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
