Bhubaneswar: A woman stopped the second marriage of her husband in Patnagarh area of Bolangir on Thursday.
Prakash Haripal of Salepali in Patnagarh of Bolangir had married the complainant long ago. The first wife has been staying at her paternal house following a marital feud over dowry.
Even Haripal also filed a divorce petition which is currently sub-judice.
Without giving her a divorce, Haripal was traditionally marrying another woman in return for a hefty dowry. Having learnt that he was marrying again, his first wife reached the wedding venue along with her family members and stopped the marriage.
“He opted for remarriage even as our case is sub-judice. I also lodged a complaint with police on January 11 when I confirmed that he was going for remarriage. But, police sat silent on my complaint. Patngarh police ignored my complaint citing the matter is out of their jurisdiction,” the first wife said.
She also showed the marriage documents and their wedding photos to the media
Haripal had left his first wife at her paternal house a few days ago citing that he was going for professional training and planned for remarriage.
“My daughter was subjected to torture for more dowry. They left her at my house demanding more articles as dowry. We have counselled him many times in court. He didn’t appear in court personally but through his lawyer. Today, we reached here and stopped the illegal marriage,” her father said.
Neither the police nor the groom was available for comment on the matter.
