Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported a fresh COVID-19 case on Wednesday after a woman from Berhampur tested positive for the virus. She has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur, where doctors said her condition is stable and there is no cause for concern.

The patient has been shifted to an isolation ward and is under medical observation. Confirming the development, MKCG Medical College Superintendent Prof. Sudeepa Das said the woman was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 and remains clinically stable.

“One COVID-19-positive patient has been admitted and kept in isolation. Her condition is stable, and she is under observation,” Prof. Das told reporters.

He said the current strain of the virus is similar to other seasonal respiratory infections and does not appear to be associated with any severe illness or a dangerous variant.

“During the monsoon, many people develop coughs, colds, and viral infections. COVID-19 is now behaving like other common respiratory viruses. People should continue following basic precautions, including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hand hygiene, and seeking medical advice if symptoms persist,” he said.

Prof. Das added that there is no evidence of any new or highly virulent COVID-19 variant in circulation and urged the public not to panic.
