Raurkela: A 45-year-old woman worker was killed after a truck allegedly ran over her at Vedvyas Sawmill Chowk in Raurkela on Tuesday morning while she was on her way to work. The motorcycle rider accompanying her sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The deceased was identified as Manjulata Raut, a resident of the slum area near Mandira Dam in Kansbahal.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 8 am when Manjulata was travelling to her workplace on a motorcycle ridden by her neighbour, Biswaranjan Dehury, who works at a nearby factory. As they reached Vedvyas Sawmill Chowk, a truck travelling from Raurkela towards Rajgangpur allegedly hit the motorcycle, causing Manjulata to fall onto the road.

The truck then ran over her head, killing her on the spot. Dehury escaped with minor injuries.

On receiving information, a team from Brahmani Tarang Police Station rushed to the accident site, recovered the body and sent it to Raurkela Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police seized the truck involved in the accident and detained its driver for questioning. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.
