Bargarh: The body of a quinquagenarian woman was found near a canal in Resham village under the Bheden police station limits in Bargarh district on Sunday morning, with police suspecting foul play.
Locals spotted the body lying near the canal and immediately alerted the police. On receiving the information, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
A preliminary examination of the body revealed injury marks on the head and blood coming from the ears, raising suspicion of murder, reports said. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination.
The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been established.
A scientific team also visited the spot and collected evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
The body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death, police said.
