Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a Yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in four districts of Odisha over the next 24 hours.
According to the midday weather bulletin issued at 1:30 PM, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph are likely to occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.
The IMD advised residents in these areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorm activity.
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak, while dry weather is likely to prevail over the rest of Odisha during the same period.
Weather conditions are expected to stabilize afterwards, with the IMD forecasting dry weather across the state from March 10 to March 16.
The midday bulletin also noted variations in temperature across the state. The highest maximum temperature of 37.6°C was recorded at Jharsuguda. The lowest minimum temperature of 17.4°C was recorded at Rayagada.
Maximum temperatures were slightly below normal in some coastal districts, while interior Odisha recorded above-normal temperatures in several places. Minimum temperatures were also markedly above normal in parts of interior Odisha.
For Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas, the IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies, with temperatures likely to hover around 35°C (maximum) and 23°C (minimum) over the next 24 hours.
No weather warnings have been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast for the next five days.
