Yellow Warning Issued For Thunderstorms And Lightning Across Odisha Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for widespread thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across most districts of Odisha tomorrow.

According to the forecast, thunderstorms with lightning and strong gusty winds are very likely to occur during the afternoon and evening hours at one or two places in several parts of the state. Wind speed is expected to reach 40-50 kmph in many districts, while it may range between 30-40 kmph in the remaining areas.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 40-50 kmph are likely over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal districts.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely over Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangapur, Koraput, Rayagada, and Malkangiri districts.

“Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 40-50 kmph) are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundergarh and Jharsuguda, read IMD’s forecast for May 10. The regional weather office has issued yellow warning to these districts.

Additionally, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

As May 11 prediction, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 40-50 kmph) are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of  Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore .  Also, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Koraput.

For May 12, the region weather office has predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore.

Moreover, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati on May 12.

For May 13, the weather office has predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.  Besides, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of  Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri.

The IMD has advised people to remain alert during the afternoon and evening hours.  Citizens, especially those in outdoor activities, have been urged to take necessary precautions against lightning and strong winds.
