Bhawanipatana: A tragic incident occurred in Kesinga of Kalahandi district on Tuesday after a couple attempted suicide by jumping before a goods train due to family opposition to their relationship.
The girl, who is a minor, died on the spot after being run over by the train while the boy was rescued by the train loco pilot and admitted to Titilagarh Hospital with critical injuries. The survivor, identified as Ghanshyam Bag is a resident of Binekela village of Kesinga block in Kalahandi.
As his condition deteriorated further, he was shifted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir. He later lost a leg.
The family had disapproved of their long-standing love affair, which forced them to take the drastic step. The police have recovered the girl’s body and sent it for post-mortem. An investigation is underway, and a complaint has been registered by the Titilagarh GRP following the report of the loco-pilot.
