Bhubaneswar: A 19-year-old girl in Bhubaneswar has threatened to immolate herself, alleging sexual exploitation by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) corporator Amaresh Jena under the false promise of marriage.
Laxmisagar police have registered a case against Jena under Sections 64(2)(m), 89, 296, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, based on the victim’s complaint.
According to the complaint, Jena, a married man, met the girl during a social event in June 2023, when she was a minor. He allegedly gifted her a mobile phone and subsequently developed a relationship with her.
Jena is accused of maintaining a physical relationship with the victim by promising to marry her after divorcing his wife.
The victim further alleged that when she became pregnant in February 2024, Jena forced her to undergo an abortion. In April 2024, he reportedly took her to Puri in his vehicle, where he verbally abused and physically assaulted her. He also allegedly instructed her to leave Bhubaneswar and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed their relationship.
In her complaint, the victim warned of self-immolation if she was not delivered justice.
Based on the victim’s complaint, police are investigating the case.
