Bolangir: A woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws in Burda village under Loisingha police limits of Bolangir district on Thursday. The deceased woman has been identified as Namita Baniya.

The police have detained Namita’s husband Sudam Baniya, mother-in-law, and father-in-law for interrogation in connection with her death.

According to reports, after Namita died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday, her father-in-law informed the matter to her family. Namita’s parents rushed to Loisingha village hearing the news about her death. However, on reaching Loisingha, they were shocked to find that Namitha’s body was cremated by her in-laws before their arrival.

Namita’s brother and her parents alleged that Namita’s husband and in-laws were torturing her mentally and physically for dowry. They reported the matter to Loisingha police who registered a case in connection with Namita’s death and detained her husband Sudam Baniya and his parents for interrogation.

On the other hand, Namitha’s husband Sudam said that Namitha had committed suicide. The SDPO of Bolangir told the media that they are investigating the case and action will be taken if anyone is found guilty of Namita’s death.
