Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a young medico drowned in the Huluhula Ganda of Rushikulya river near Bhagabanpur village under Sorada police limits in Ganjam district on Sunday when his feet slipped and he went missing in the deep waters.
The deceased doctor was identified as Rakesh Kumar Padhy, son of Bijaya Kumar Padhy from Gosaninuagaon locality of Berhampur city. He was doing his PG at MKCG Medical College in Berhampur.
According to reports, Rakesh along with his three friends – two medicos and an engineer had gone to Huluhala Ganda for a picnic. After some time, Rakesh entered the river to take a bath but his feet slipped and he was swept by the current in the river. They immediately jumped into the river to save Rakesh but could not trace his whereabouts.
On being informed, Fire Services personnel reached the spot and launched a search for Rakesh. Later in the night, they fished out the medico’s body from the river.
He was rushed to a nearby community health center (CHC) where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
Sorada police have seized the body and initiated a probe into the incident.
