Cuttack: In a tragic incident, a young nurse and her male friend were found dead by suicide in Khandola village under Mahanga police station limits in Cuttack district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Chinmayee Bhoi, a nurse working at CHC (Community Health Center) , and Debendra Munda, a resident of Sauria village under Salipur police limits. Chinmayee hailed from Balisahi Machhuati, also in Salipur.
According to police sources, the two had recently taken a house on rent in Khandola village—only seven days prior to the incident.
Today, local residents noticed the house locked from inside for a prolonged period and, suspecting something amiss, informed the police.
Officers from Mahanga police station, along with the local tehsildar, arrived at the scene. In the presence of local authorities and villagers, the door was forcibly opened. Inside, both individuals were found hanging from the ceiling fan, tied with ropes around their necks.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the two died by suicide, allegedly over a love-related issue. However, the exact motive is yet to be confirmed. The police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and family members have been informed.
