Bhubaneswar: A 22-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 20-year-old girlfriend to death at a guest house in Berhampur. The incident occurred at the Pushpanjali Guest House near Bus Stand in the city’s Vaidyanathpur area on Tuesday.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Abhaya Kumar Sahu, and the victim had been friends since childhood. However, their relationship turned sour after Abhaya lost his job, and the victim started receiving marriage proposals. Abhaya allegedly killed the victim in a fit of rage.
It is reported that around 11 am, Abhaya arrived at the guest house with his female friend, and they stayed in room number 112. Later, Abhaya left the guest house alone, and when he didn’t return for a long time, the guest house authorities checked the room and found the woman had been murdered. They then informed the Gosaninuagaon police. The victim, however, died while being taken to the hospital for treatment.
Upon receiving the news, the Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) and the South Zone Inspector General (IG) reached the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident.
According to the Aadhaar card seized by the police, the accused, Abhaya, resides at Lanjipalli, Umanagar.
Meanwhile, police have also sealed the room where the incident occurred, and an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted today to determine the cause of death.
Till the last report came in, police have detained the accused.
