Balasore: A youth died and more than 50 monkeys were killed in separate lightning strikes in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday evening.
The deceased youth has been identified as Madhu Dadai, a resident of Devog village of Baliapal block in Odisha’s Balasore district.
According to reports, Madhu was returning home on his bicycle on Monday evening when he was caught in a sudden thundershower and lightning. He was struck by lightning while he was crossing a field and fell to the ground. A severely injured Madhu lay there unconscious till his family members rescued him and rushed him to the Baliapal community health center, where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
Meanwhile, at least 50 monkeys, who had taken shelter on a tree to escape a sudden thundershower in Baliapal village under Godsahi block of Jaleswar in Balasore district, were killed in a lightning strike on Monday evening.
The tragic incident occurred when the monkeys were perching on a 150-year-old tamarind tree in the backyard of one Pratap Majhi in the evening, villagers said. Villagers spotted carcasses of at least 50 monkeys lying below the tree after the thundershower and lightning stopped.
