Jayapur: Jayapur Sadar Police have arrested a 20-year-old youth in connection with an alleged attempt to loot an SBI ATM at Ambaguda in Koraput district, police said.
The arrested person has been identified as Manoj Disari of Dangara village under Borigumma police station limits.
According to police, ASI Sushant Kumar Jena of the Ambaguda outpost was on night patrolling on September 2 when he received information from the DCC, Koraput, about an attempt to loot the SBI ATM at Ambaguda. CCTV footage of the incident was also made available to the police.
Acting on the information, police reached the ATM premises and began an investigation. However, the suspected offender had fled the spot by then. The CCTV footage showed a person attempting to break into the ATM with his face covered with a black cloth.
Police subsequently registered a case and launched an investigation based on the available footage and other leads. During the course of the probe, investigators traced the suspect and arrested Disari.
An iron rod and a screwdriver allegedly used in the attempted break-in were seized from his possession, police said.
Disari was later produced before a court, Jayapur Sadar police station IIC Sachindra Pradhan said.
