Bhubaneswar: A disturbing incident has come to light in Angul district, where a 25-year-old youth was arrested for hanging a parrot to death and posting a video of the act on social media- Instagram.

The accused, Baiga Pitali, a resident of Nakati Deul of Athamallik in Angul, was taken into custody by the forest department after tracking his mobile number from the video.

Athamallik DFO Santosh Kumar Koppula said that the parrot died due to the hanging, and the accused will be produced in court today. The incident occurred in the Nakati Deul area of Athmallik. The accused was arrested on Wednesday morning.

Pitali claimed that another person was involved in the killing, and he had only recorded the video. The forest department is currently searching for the second accused.

A case has been registered against Pitali under Section 9 of the Wildlife Act for killing a Rose Ringed Parakeet, a Schedule-II animal. The duo had allegedly killed the parrot for pecking black grams and then uploaded the video on social media platforms.
