Bhubaneswar: A 24-year-old man was arrested for instigating a wild elephant by pulling its tail while chasing it in Talcher of Angul district.
The accused has been identified as Dillip Sahoo, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (wildlife) Susant Nanda informed through a ‘X’ post.
He is a resident of Kulad village in Talcher Forest Range. He was booked under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Some villagers chased the pachyderm when it was moving around near Kulad. Sahoo came closer to the animal and pulled its tail in a bid to tease it.
A video clip of the scene was shared by the PCCF on his X handle. The top forest officer stated “We have zero tolerance… either elephant will trample you or our law,” Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (wildlife) Susant Nanda posted on ‘X’.
Anyone providing information about the person teasing the elephant and location will be suitably rewarded. It will be kept confidential, Nanda added.
According to the law, anyone found guilty of teasing wild animals are liable to a punishment of three to seven years of imprisonment.
