Bhubaneswar: Excise officials arrested a man with 87 grams of brown sugar worth an estimated Rs 8.7 lakh during a raid in Cuttack district on Thursday.
On the directions of Excise Superintendent Samarjit Das and under the direct supervision of Excise Deputy Superintendent Roshan Isu Hansda, the Excise Intelligence Department Unit-1 Flying Squad conducted the raid on Kotasahi village road under Tangi Police Station limits.
During the operation, Bharat Kumar Sahu, 31, son of Late Kailash Chandra Sahu of Kotasahi village, was arrested. Officials seized 87 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, 1985. The accused was produced before the court of District Judge-cum-Special Judge, Cuttack. His bail application was rejected and he was sent to judicial custody.
Excise officials said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and possible links in the drug supply chain.
