Bhubaneswar: A heated argument over the division of stolen money turned deadly in Somnath slum under Bharatpur police limits in Bhubaneswar on Thursday night, when a youth was allegedly beaten to death by his friend. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.

The deceased has been identified as Kailash Nayak, a native of Buguda town in Ganjam district, who worked as a painter and was residing in a rented house in the slum along with his mother and the accused.

According to reports, Kailash and his friend had been involved in a recent theft in the area. After committing the crime, the duo reportedly had dinner and consumed alcohol together. During the drinking session, a disagreement broke out over how to split the stolen money. The argument escalated, and in a fit of rage, Kailash’s friend allegedly attacked him with a stone, killing him on the spot.

Local residents discovered Kailash’s body in a pool of blood the next morning and alerted the police.

A team from Bharatpur police station reached the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for postmortem. An investigation is underway to track down the accused, who is currently absconding.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused and uncover the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
