Bhubaneswar: A young man was fatally attacked by a group of 10-15 miscreants at Kothiasahi village under Kujang police limits in Jagatsinghpur district, on Sunday night.
The victim, a resident of Balarampur, was on his way home from Taladanda late last night when he was ambushed.
The attackers, reportedly from the Jagannathpur area, attacked the youth with sharp weapons and inflicted severe injuries on the youth’s head and hands. Miscreants reportedly fled the scene after dumping the youth behind a bush.
Local residents found the youth lying on the road and writhing in pain. They immediately admitted him to Kujang Hospital. After initial treatment, he was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The victim is reportedly fighting for his life.
The incident sparked tension in the area as hundreds of villagers from Balarampur mobbed the police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
Police have meanwhile detained some youths in this connection. Past rivalry is suspected to be the reason behind the fatal attack.
