Puri: An 18-year-old youth drowned in the Sweta Ganga sacred pond at Balisahi in Puri on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Sambit Pradhan, a resident of Satyabhamapur in Khordha district.

Pradhan had visited Puri along with his friends to have darshan of Lord Jagannath. After taking a dip in the sea, the group of friends went to Swetaganga to bathe.

While bathing in the pond, Sambit slipped into the deep waters. The incident took place at around 2 PM.

On receiving the information, two teams of the Fire Services immediately launched a search operation. After nearly 45 minutes of searching, the rescuers recovered Sambit’s body.
