Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, an 18-year-old youth died after being struck by lightning while playing cricket in the village playground.
The deceased has been identified as Priyabrat Mahanta, a resident of Adhapali village under Kantapal Panchayat in Kankadahad police limits of Dhenkanal district.
According to reports, Priyabrat was playing cricket with his friends in the village ground when lightning struck him suddenly, causing him to collapse on the spot. Local residents immediately rushed him to Kamakhyanagar Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
It is pertinent to mention that around 20 children were playing cricket in the field at the time of the incident. The entire village of Adhapali is plunged into mourning following the sudden demise of the young boy.
This unfortunate incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.
