Bhubaneswar: A young was trampled to death by rogue elephants in the Betnoti range of Mayurbhanj district while trying to drive away the animals that had entered a village in search of food.
The deceased has been identified as Kamalakanta Singh of Mukund village under Morada.
According to reports, a herd of 13 elephants staryed into Betnoti village and created panic among the residents. When the youth attempted to chase the animals away, the elephants launched a retaliatory attack, leaving him seriously injured. He was immediately rushed to Baramile hospital for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has created an atmosphere of fear in the village. Although the Forest Department had been monitoring the movement of the elephant herd, local residents have expressed dissatisfaction over the repeated elephant menace in the area.
