Bhubaneswar: A youth died and another sustained severe injuries as the bike they were travelling in crashed into a divider at Delta Square in state capital on Sunday night.
The deceased is Y Ganga Rao (23), a resident of Bharatpur area.
According to reports, Rao was riding a bike with another youth Ashis Das riding pillion when they lost control and crashed into the divider. The accident, which occurred due to high speed, was so severe that Rao died on the very spot, while Das suffered serious injuries.
Locals rushed to the spot and alerted the police who sent Rao’s body to the Capital Hospital for a post-mortem and admitted Das to the hospital for treatment.
The police have seized the damaged bike and started an investigation into the incident.
“They were not wearing helmets. If the traffic police were more vigilant, this tragic accident could have been prevented,” said a local resident.
