Rayagada: A shocking incident of violence and abduction occurred in Indira Nagar’s third line area of Rayagada city on Saturday night, leaving locals in fear.
A young man was chased, fired upon, and kidnapped by unidentified miscreants. His body was recovered on Sunday near the banks of the Janjabati river. According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 10 PM on Saturday.
Some miscreants, arriving on a Bullet motorcycle and a four-wheeler, chased the youth and got into an argument with him. As the frightened youth tried to run away, the attackers allegedly opened fire. Even as he attempted to take shelter inside a nearby house, the miscreants caught hold of him and forcibly took him away towards the Ring Road.
The youth’s identity has not yet been officially disclosed by the police. Police sources suspect the incident stems from previous enmity. On Sunday, the body of the abducted youth was found near the Janjabati river bank, raising strong suspicion that he was murdered after the kidnapping.
Rayagada Town Police Station immediately registered a case and launched an investigation. Speaking to the media, Rayagada Superintendent of Police Swati S. Kumar said, “Four special teams have been formed to investigate the case. Accused have been identified. All efforts are being made to arrest the accused at the earliest.”
The incident has cast a shadow of terror in the Indira Nagar area, with residents expressing concern over the growing law and order situation. Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
