Bhubaneswar: A youth, who sustained 90 per cent burns after allegedly setting himself on fire in Cuttack district, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Amiya Singh of Ostia village under Banki police limits, allegedly poured an inflammable substance over himself and set himself ablaze due to unresolved employment issues.

According to his family members, Amiya was struggling mentally due to unsettled job issues after his father’s death in 2019. They alleged that even after seven years, no one in his family had been given a job under the compassionate appointment scheme. Even after completing all paperwork and formalities, the job offer never came. The uncertainty took a toll on him, pushing him into depression.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the incident and looking into all angles what led to the incident.
