Jajpur: Youths hurled eggs at Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former MLA Pranab Kumar Balabantaray at Kurikana village in Jajpur district on Thursday.
As Balabantaray’s vehicle passed through the Kurikana village in Dharmasala area, a group of youths reportedly tried to block his way and hurled eggs at his car.
According to eyewitnesses, a crowd—predominantly young people—attempted to stop the former legislator’s vehicle as it moved through the village. The situation escalated as several individuals in the group threw eggs at the car, although Balabantaray himself remained unharmed. His driver quickly accelerated the vehicle to avoid further confrontation.
Balabantaray, a two-term MLA from Dharmasala, lost his seat in the last elections to Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo.
It remains unclear why the locals targeted the former MLA and resorted to such actions, though tensions appeared high in the area.
