Sundargarh: While he is a film director and playwright by profession, Pradeep Bhol of Sundargarh district in Odisha has now become a successful farmer with the biggest apple orchard in the State.
After 26 years of hard work, Pradeep has become a successful farmer. He had started a farmhouse on 16 acres of land at Badakachhar under Sadar block of Sundargarh district in the year 1996.
Pradeep had brought 2,500 apple saplings from Hariman Sharma Apple Nursery in Himachal Pradesh in 2019. He took care of the trees for over two years and finally they managed to bear fruit this year in the 45-degree heat of Sundargarh.
He had earned nearly Rs 7 lakh in the last harvest. He has also successfully cultivated over 100 Lychee trees, around 10 species of 100 mango trees, lemon and coconut trees, and also doing fish farming.
Pradeep plans to open a nursery and research centre at his farmhouse in the coming days and provide training to interested farmers. He said that educated youth can earn more from their jobs if they adopt farming.
