Bhubaneswar: Sweta Padma Swain, an MBBS student of Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital in Bhubaneswar, received 13 gold medals at the 52nd convocation of Utkal University on Friday.
Swain had secured the highest marks in medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery, forensic medicine and toxicology, pharmacology, ENT and community medicine. She aims to pursue career in the field of dermatology, paediatrics, or obstetrics and gynaecology.
Including Swain, gold medals were awarded to 99 students for their outstanding academic performance in various disciplines. Rajat Kumar Mishra, a law graduate of University Law College received five gold medals.
A gold medal each was awarded to five MBBS graduates of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. As many as 163 scholars received their PhD degrees. The awards were distributed by Governor Ganeshi Lal, who also serves as the chancellor of the university.
Honorary Doctorate of Literature was awarded to three persons including Kandhamal MP Achyuta Samanta, who is the founder of KIIT and KISS, in recognition of his contribution to education and social service.
