Bhubaneswar: Already sweltering, the people of Odisha are likely to experience harsher days ahead. While the day temperatures (maximum temperature) breached 41°C on Tuesday, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the situation is likely to worsen today and in the coming days.
As per the weather office, Odisha is likely to experience intolerable heat wave conditions till April 6 as the day temperature will increase by 4°C-6°C during this period. Even the nights will be warmer and uncomfortable, the IMD warned. By April 6, the maximum temperature is likely to cross 43°C in one or two places of western Odisha as warm winds continue to enter the state from the west and northwest.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for intense heat waves in six districts of Odisha – Balsore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar – today. The day temperature in some places in western Odisha may breach 42°C on Wednesday.
The weather office has advised people to remain indoors during the peak hours and not venture outside between 11 am and 3 pm unless necessary.
At the same time, several places in Odisha are likely to experience Kalbaisakhi between April 6 and April 8 resulting in light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
