Bhubaneswar: An adult male black swan housed in the Bihanga Sarani enclosure of Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar has died, reducing the zoo’s black swan population to three.
According to zoo authorities, the swan was believed to have died of old age. However, a post-mortem examination revealed an infection in its intestinal tract.
Samples collected from the carcass have been sent to the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) for further examination to ascertain the exact cause of death, officials said.
With the death of the male swan, Nandankanan Zoo is now left with two female black swans and one male.
