Mumbai: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will visit Nashik on Wednesday to attend the valedictory session of a 10-day residential training programme organised for 78 newly appointed Congress district and city presidents from Maharashtra under the party’s Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan.
He is also scheduled to deliver a speech on “Global Politics and India” outlining perspectives on the shifting international order, economic models, and the party’s organisational preparedness.
This marks his second visit to Maharashtra in 11 days, following his participation in the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” interaction in Pune in late August.
As part of the physical and mental endurance module of the camp — which included training in Japanese martial arts (Aikido/Jiu-Jitsu) with an emphasis on self-discipline and self-control, Gandhi is expected to participate in a live demonstration alongside the newly trained district chiefs.
He is also slated to meet a delegation of tribal community representatives and student activists. The interaction assumes significance in the backdrop of recent protests and hunger strikes in Pune and Nashik over issues relating to government-run tribal hostels, education policies concerning ashram schools, and student welfare.
Senior leaders and office-bearers will attend the event, including AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, State Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal, Legislature Party Leader Vijay Wadettiwar, senior leader and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Balasaheb Thorat, Legislative Council Group Leader Satej alias Bunty Patil, former State President Nana Patole, Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakre, former Minister and CWC member Naseem Khan, MP Chandrakant Handore, AICC Secretaries B.M. Sandeep, Vamshi Reddy, and Rehana Chishti, Dr Vishwajeet Kadam, National President of the Tribal Congress Dr Vikrant Bhuria, and State Congress Senior Vice President Mohan Joshi.
Earlier on August 22, Rahul Gandhi addressed students at the ‘Chatron Ki Gunj’ event in Pune emphasising that women represent India’s greatest asset while launching a sharp critique against the ideology of the Manusmriti.
