Baripada: A young man allegedly jumped into the Subarnarekha River after parking his motorcycle on a bridge near Jamsola village under Jharpokharia police station in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday, prompting police to launch a search operation.
The youth has been identified as Rasabihari Behera, reportedly a resident of the Chandua police station area of Mayurbhanj.
According to reports, the youth reached the bridge and parked his motorcycle before allegedly jumping into the river. The motorcycle was later seized by Jharpokharia police.
The incident occurred near the inter-state border area under Jharpokharia police station limits. The bridge over the Subarnarekha River is located near the border areas of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Soon after being alerted, a team from Jharpokharia police station reached the spot. Personnel from Baharagora police station in neighbouring Jharkhand also joined the efforts to trace the youth.
Police and other personnel launched a search operation in the Subarnarekha River. Efforts were underway to locate the missing youth at the time of filing this report.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet clear.
