Lagos: Twenty people were killed and one person was injured in a road accident in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Bauchi, traffic police said.
The accident, which involved a commercial bus and a Sharan Volkswagen vehicle, occurred at Huturu village on the Bauchi-Kano road, Yusuf Abdullahi, a sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Bauchi, said at a press briefing in the city of Bauchi, the state capital, Xinhua news agency reported.
Abdullahi attributed the cause of the accident to dangerous driving and speeding violations.
“Twenty one people were involved in the crash, and there were 12 male adults, five female adults, one male child, and three female children,” he said, adding that the injured one is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The sector commander advised motorists to always observe traffic rules and regulations.
Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions, and reckless driving.
