Tanzania’s President Commends India’s Role In Zanzibar’s Development

Dodoma: Tanzania’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi on Tuesday commended India’s vital role in Zanzibar’s development during his meeting with the High Commissioner of India to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey.

President Mwinyi received High Commissioner Dey at the State House in Zanzibar and commended India’s vital role in Zanzibar’s development, particularly in investments, vocational training, and ICT innovation through IIT Madras Zanzibar, the High Commission of India in Dar es Salaam wrote on X.

During the audience, High Commissioner Dey extended an official invitation from India’s Vice President, C. P. Radhakrishnan, for President Mwinyi to visit India in July, including a visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.

High Commissioner Dey also participated in an Orientation Session for the ICCR Scholarship awardees from Zanzibar for the academic year 2026-27.

The consulate organised an Orientation Session for the ICCR Scholarship awardees from Zanzibar for the academic year 2026-27. High Commissioner Dey provided an overview of the India-Tanzania relationship and of educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries, including ICCR scholarships.

He shared valuable tips with students on how to utilise their time in India to the best possible effect and also addressed their queries and concerns, the High Commission wrote on X.

Last week, the High Commissioner also met the Members of Parliament (MPs) of Tanzania who are members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) with India in Dodoma.

Mussa Azzan Zungu, Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania, also attended the PFG meeting. Members of PFG included Anton Albert Mwantona (MP), Arif Suleiman Premji (MP), Asha Juma Kombo (MP), Asha Omar Rashid (MP), Dickson Nathan Lutevele Villa (MP), Edibily Kazala Kinyoma (MP), Edifonsi Joackim Kanini (MP), Edward Kisau Olelekaita (MP), Haji Amour Haji (MP), and Kellen Rose Rwakatare (MP). High Commissioner briefed the PFG on India-Tanzania relations.
