Bhubaneswar: On the fourth day of filing of nomination for the three-tier panchayat elections scheduled in the State from February 16, more than 58,000 aspirants have filed nomination papers.
State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary R N Sahu has informed that today 40,732 candidates filed papers for the post of Ward Members, 8,842 for Sarpanchs, 7,832 for Panchayat Samiti members, and 1,182 for Zilla Parishad members.
The filing of nominations will continue till tomorrow (January 21) while these will be scrutinized on January 22.
Candidates can withdraw their nomination by January 25 and the final list of candidates will be issued on the same day.
Elections will be held in five phases on February 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24.
